Prof. Gustave Simo is a
distinguished Cameroonian scientist and Professor of Biochemistry at the
University of Dschang, Cameroon. He is a specialist in molecular parasitology,
with extensive research experience in parasitic and vector-borne diseases,
particularly human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), animal
trypanosomiasis, and the biology and epidemiology of Trypanosoma parasites.
Prof. Simo obtained his PhD from the University of Yaoundé I in 2001 and
subsequently worked as a researcher at Cameroon’s Institute of Medical Research
and Medicinal Plants Studies (IMPM) before joining the University of Dschang.
He established the Molecular Parasitology and Entomology Unit (MPEU) within the
Department of Biochemistry, where his research has contributed to a better
understanding of the transmission, population genetics, molecular epidemiology,
and drug resistance of trypanosomes. His research has been supported through
international collaborations, including partnerships with the Institut de
Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and the Alexander von Humboldt
Foundation. He has also led research initiatives addressing the epidemiology of
resistance to trypanocidal drugs used in the treatment of animal
trypanosomiasis. With a substantial body of scientific publications and
international collaborations, Prof. Simo continues to contribute to research,
postgraduate training, and the advancement of knowledge in tropical and
neglected diseases.
