Dr. Simeon Tchakonte earned his PhD in Hydrobiology and Environment in 2016 from the Faculty of Science at the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon. His doctoral research, supported in part by the International Foundation for Science (IFS) and the ACP-Intra-African Mobility Program (PIMASO), focused on the use of aquatic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators of ecological health and environmental quality in freshwater ecosystems, particularly for assessing the impacts of anthropogenic pollution in urban coastal areas. As an environmental scientist, educator, and consultant, Dr. Tchakonte has led and contributed to numerous research projects and grant-funded initiatives addressing water pollution, biodiversity, and the ecological functioning of aquatic ecosystems in Cameroon. His work has resulted in a substantial body of scientific publications that have advanced knowledge on freshwater and coastal ecosystem monitoring, assessment, and conservation. Over the years, he has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences, workshops, and training programs covering a wide range of environmental topics, including biodiversity conservation, ecology, water pollution and sanitation, sustainable development, climate change, and ecological transition. These experiences have further strengthened his technical expertise, broadened his interdisciplinary perspective, and enhanced his capacity to contribute to innovative approaches for the monitoring, management, and conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems. Since 2021, Dr. Tchakonte has served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, University of Buea, Cameroon. He is also the Deputy Group Leader of the Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation of Coastal and Marine Ecosystems (Bio-ECOME) Research Group within the Translational Research and Development Foundation (TREND Foundation), where he contributes to research leadership, capacity building, and the development of sustainable solutions for aquatic ecosystem conservation and management.
