Dr. Cyrille Nguemnang Kamdem is a Research Scientist with the Molecular and Computational Cell Biology (MUTATE) Research Group at the Translational Research and Development Foundation (TREND Foundation) and a Lecturer at the Institut Catholique de Bafoussam (ICAB), Cameroon, where he leads teaching and curriculum development in biochemistry, parasitology, and environmental health. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Clinical Biochemistry) from the Faculty of Science, University of Dschang, Cameroon, awarded in 2023. His research lies at the interface of diagnostic innovation, molecular epidemiology, and infectious disease surveillance, with a particular focus on developing accessible and reliable approaches for the detection and control of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), including soil-transmitted helminth infections and human trypanosomiasis. Dr. Nguemnang Kamdem’s work addresses critical challenges in pathogen detection and surveillance in resource-limited settings by developing practical, cost-effective, and scalable molecular methodologies. His recent research has focused on optimising DNA extraction strategies, including cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-based protocols, and improving biological sample preservation approaches to enhance molecular surveillance capacity and diagnostic readiness. Driven by a One Health perspective, Dr. Nguemnang Kamdem investigates innovative approaches that strengthen epidemic preparedness through the integration of molecular tools, environmental health perspectives, and field-adapted diagnostic solutions. He is a member of the Canadian Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (CNNDT) and contributes to the global scientific community as a peer reviewer for PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases. Within MUTATE Research Group, Dr. Nguemnang Kamdem contributes to advancing translational research approaches that connect molecular discovery with real-world applications, supporting the development of improved diagnostics, surveillance strategies, and evidence-based interventions for infectious diseases affecting vulnerable populations.
