Translating research evidence into real-world impact
The creation of the Translational Research and Development Foundation (TREND Foundation) responds to a convergence of global interconnected crises that challenge existing research and innovation systems. The COVID-19 pandemic, accelerating climate change and global warming, rising food insecurity, and widespread pollution have exposed the fragility of social, environmental, and health systems, as well as the limits of siloed, discipline-based research.
These challenges are systemic, cross-sectoral, and transboundary, requiring solutions that move rapidly from discovery to real-world implementation. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), TREND Foundation is positioned to advance health and well-being (SDG 3), food security and sustainable production (SDGs 2 and 12), climate action and ecosystem protection (SDGs 13 and 15), clean water and resilient communities (SDGs 6 and 11), and strong partnerships (SDG 17).
TREND Foundation mission is grounded in the recognition that progress toward these goals depends on integrated, translational approaches that bridge science, policy, and practice. Guided by One Health and Planetary Health frameworks, TREND Foundation acknowledges the inseparable links between human health, animal health, and ecosystem integrity. Climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and land-use change are key drivers of disease emergence, food system vulnerability, and social inequity. Addressing these risks requires coordinated, interdisciplinary research that emphasizes prevention, resilience, and sustainable transformation.
TREND Foundation is conceived as a translational platform, designed to close the gap between knowledge generation and societal impact. By integrating discovery, implementation, partnerships, and responsible innovation, we aim to deliver timely, scalable solutions that strengthen preparedness for future crises, support sustainable development, and protect both people and the planet.
